Hi there!
Hi, I'm Riley Kai, your San Diego in-home newborn photographer. I'm here to capture a snapshot of the first few days of life with you and your newest family member, all in the comfort of your own home. My goal is to make your life easier when it comes to portraits which means I bring everything to you; lights, backdrops, oufits, props, and more.
Safety is my number one priority. I am proudly vaccinated against Covid-19 with two booster shots for your family's protection and still wear masks to newborn sessions.

Minimum 10’x10’ space on hard floors required due to paper backdrop.
A $100 non-refundable deposit is required for all sessions and is due at the time of booking.

Newborn FAQs
When should I book my newborn session?
Book as soon as possible! Even though the booking calendar might show plenty of availability, do not wait! I only take a limited number of sessions per month, and after I reach a threshold the calendar will be closed. I cannot guarantee any availability after your baby has already been born.
Is my baby too old?
The ideal time period to photograph is 5-12 days to ensure a sleepy baby. Although I can photograph at any time, some poses require babies to be in a deep sleep to safely photograph them. Babies 2+ weeks old tend to be more alert and more difficult to settle, which means the older they grow the more limited posing becomes.
What should I do the NIGHT before my session?
Clear the area where you would like me to photograph. It should be at least 8 feet by 8 feet but the bigger the better. If you have any pets, please sweep away any dander or hair from the space. If you are breastfeeding I suggest skipping any spicy foods or broccoli at dinner to prevent any tummy troubles for the baby in the morning. If applicable, prepare your outfits.

What should I wear?
If you are planning on taking family photos, coordinate prior to the session with everyone on what to wear. Avoid patterns and choose only one or two colors to repeat through everyones wardrobe. This does not mean everyone needs to wear the same thing, but keep a distinct color palette.
Do I need to bring anything?
I have all the props, outfits, headbands and hats that you will need. Let me know if you have something sentimental you wish to include in your session, or a specific prop request. We will make your vision a reality.
What props do you have?

What to Expect
Newborn sessions start between 8am and 9am and last a few hours. While you're feeding your baby to get them into a deep sleep, my assistant will set up while I walk you through the outfit changes, props, and poses we hope to catch. Color pallete and specific props are usually chosen ahead of time to match your home aesthetic. Family portraits are usually captured at the end of session. Your baby guides the photoshoot; feeding breaks are expected and alloted in our time together. My delivery timeline is roughly one week from your session date.
